Theatre Thursday – “Shining City” at the Goodman
The League of Chicago Theatre’s ”Theater Thursdays” is really a great program, and is worth checking out. Every Thursday the League offers specially-priced tickets to one of Chicago’s popular plays, along with cocktails and appetizers before or after the show, PLUS the chance to hang out with the artists and/or take a tour of backstage, etc.
This week’s choice pick is ”Shining City” at the Goodman Theatre, written by playwright Conor McPherson and directed by Robert Falls. As the League’s website describes it:
In a Dublin psychiatrist’s office, a distraught man reveals a fantastical happening: the recent sighting of the ghost of his newly deceased wife. Thus begins this haunting, mysterious tale about two people’s searches for love, meaning and their places in the world.

Theater Thursdays – “Altar Boyz”

If you haven’t participated in the League of Chicago Theatre’s ”Theater Thursdays” before, I suggest checking it out. Every Thursday the League offers specially-priced tickets to one of Chicago’s popular plays, along with cocktails and appetizers before or after the show, PLUS the chance to hang out with the artists and/or take a tour of backstage, etc.
This week’s choice pick is “Altar Boyz” – an across-the-board recommended play at Drury Lane Water Tower Place (see my review). As the League’s website describes it:
Armed with catchy melodies, heavenly voices, divine moves and gobs of hair product, the Altar Boyz are five small-town guys trying to save the world – one screaming fan at a time. Presented as a concert in real-time, this hilarious musical comedy sweetly satirizes the phenomenon of boy bands, the popularity of Christian-themed music, and excessive product placement in contemporary American culture. Before the performance, Theater Thursdays ticket holders can mingle with members of the creative team and enjoy a pre-show reception in the lobby courtesy of Connie’s Pizza. The evening will conclude with an exclusive post-show talk-back with “the boyz.”
