Based on true stories from Southern fraternities, the play tells the story of four pledges and the brothers who will shape their future. Told in a promenade-style performance, the audience is taken through the pledges’ journey, experiencing the startling rituals, spontaneous humor and life-long decisions they are forced to make.

Theater Thursday – The House Theatre’s “Rose and Rime”
Thursday, March 5
Rose and the Rime
The Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division Street (click on map for bigger picture)
Enjoy an evening in Wicker Park with pizza from Apart Pizza and a performance of Rose and the Rime, the House Theatre’s latest original work by the creators of The Sparrow (my rave review here). The tiny Michigan town of Radio Falls has been trapped in a perpetual winter for a generation. It’s up to a young girl named Rose to save the town from the vicious curse of the Rime witch. This is a modern version of The House’s favorite myth — a reminder that anything powerful enough to fulfill your dreams is powerful enough to destroy them.
Event begins in the lobby at 7:30 p.m.
Show begins at 8 p.m. A talk-back with the cast and crew follows.
TICKETS ONLY $25
For reservations call 773.251.2195 and mention “Theater Thursdays,” or visit www.thehousetheatre.com/tickets.

Theater Thursdays – “Good Boys and True” at Steppenwolf
For this week’s Theater Thursday, the League of Chicago Theatre has chosen Steppenwolf Theatre’s world-premier “Good Boys and True” (see my review here). As the League describes the play:
A sex tape scandal. Secret lovers. A privileged childhood breeding a reckless adult. No, we’re not talking about Paris Hilton. Golden boy Brandon’s charmed life threatens to collapse when a disturbing videotape is found on campus. As the resulting scandal takes unexpected turns, Brandon’s mother (played by ensemble member Martha Lavey) must sort fact from fiction from family.

Theatre Thursday – “Shining City” at the Goodman
The League of Chicago Theatre’s ”Theater Thursdays” is really a great program, and is worth checking out. Every Thursday the League offers specially-priced tickets to one of Chicago’s popular plays, along with cocktails and appetizers before or after the show, PLUS the chance to hang out with the artists and/or take a tour of backstage, etc.
This week’s choice pick is ”Shining City” at the Goodman Theatre, written by playwright Conor McPherson and directed by Robert Falls. As the League’s website describes it:
In a Dublin psychiatrist’s office, a distraught man reveals a fantastical happening: the recent sighting of the ghost of his newly deceased wife. Thus begins this haunting, mysterious tale about two people’s searches for love, meaning and their places in the world.

Theater Thursdays – “Altar Boyz”

If you haven’t participated in the League of Chicago Theatre’s ”Theater Thursdays” before, I suggest checking it out. Every Thursday the League offers specially-priced tickets to one of Chicago’s popular plays, along with cocktails and appetizers before or after the show, PLUS the chance to hang out with the artists and/or take a tour of backstage, etc.
This week’s choice pick is “Altar Boyz” – an across-the-board recommended play at Drury Lane Water Tower Place (see my review). As the League’s website describes it:
Armed with catchy melodies, heavenly voices, divine moves and gobs of hair product, the Altar Boyz are five small-town guys trying to save the world – one screaming fan at a time. Presented as a concert in real-time, this hilarious musical comedy sweetly satirizes the phenomenon of boy bands, the popularity of Christian-themed music, and excessive product placement in contemporary American culture. Before the performance, Theater Thursdays ticket holders can mingle with members of the creative team and enjoy a pre-show reception in the lobby courtesy of Connie’s Pizza. The evening will conclude with an exclusive post-show talk-back with “the boyz.”
